about

A long interweaving thing for moog, pitchshifter/delay and percussion, followed by a more immediate fix on 808, SH-101, guitar, bass, casios and percussion that makes me look wistfully into the morning sky.

July 2nd 2006 my ex-'A Buffalo Crossing' bandmate Richard Davis brought his Moog Prodigy over, we drank beer and ran the moog through my mixer and pitchshifter and delays, slowly building up ideas and knocking them down again. It was a really nice night. I think Rich even made it home without falling asleep on the train and having to stay at a YMCA. I pretty much loved Rich from the first night I met him in 2002, I reckon a lot of people probably feel that way. He's also one of the smartest and most intuitive musicians I've ever played with and his dance moves need to be seen to be conceived. Wild boy.

Inspired by the synthy evening, I dug out a jam from a 'Cobra Kai' rehearsal in autumn 1999 where we'd used a SH101 and a Roland 808; the other guitarist and I switching between a row of machines and pedals machines balanced on a line of guitar amps. We'd made a long sprawling jam we intended do something with, but only got as far as drummer Ben recording bongos over the drum machine and synth effects and a mix had sat on DAT ever since. So in 2006 I made an edit, added some bass guitar, shakers and guitars and it sat nicely next to the ambient interweaving rhythms of the thing I'd made with Rich. Then both sat on a hard drive for 16 years. Here they are.

Track 1:
Richard Davis - Moog and effects
Matt Rigsby Smith - Effects and Moog and editing

Track 2:
Matt Cummins - Machines, delays and pitchshifting
Matt Rigsby Smith - Machines, delays and pitchshifting, guitar, bass, melodic and chord synths and shakers
Ben C Winn - Bongos

Recorded on a Mac Mini 2006 with a Tascam 1804, July 2006. Roland SH101, 808 and bongos recorded on a Fostex DMT-VL digital eight track in autumn 1999.

Many thanks to Antony Finch, Nathan Thompson, Dave Bagnal, James McCabe and Boney M.
