After 18 years, I started meeting up with my old Akito Spokes and Cobra Kai bandmate, Matthew Cummins, having started talking while I prepped the early ‘I was a 4 Track Hero’ micro label releases. The second time he brought his guitar, I’d just got a 1960s Teisco short scale bass and we began making small psychedelic universes in my shed studio. Wanting to be no bigger than a trio, we became pedal heads to expand the sound, with my bass coming out as three channels: drone, bass, and synth (mostly DI’d in these recordings). We actually played quite quietly, as if listening to a record; sometimes you can hear the pedals click through the microphone (57) on Matthew’s tiny 10w watt Marshall amp. These are our edited rehearsal recordings (alongside my ideas in between) over 37 sessions between Spring 2018 and September 2021, mostly in my shed but sometimes with drummers in rehearsal rooms. The first track is a collage of completed songs made to entice a drummer shortly before calling it a day.
